Thrives in average, well-draining soil, but is highly adaptable and tolerates a wide variety of soil types, including heavy clay, sandy, and chalky soils. The soil pH can be neutral or basic. It needs occasional, deep summer watering. Over watering or poor drainage can cause root rot. Good for erosion control on slopes. Does not tolerate foot traffic well.
